'Future of 3D Depends on Content'

James Cameron, director of the Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar," says that progress of the 3D industry does not depend upon technology but rather continued production of quality content.

Cameron presented the view on Thursday during his keynote speech for the Seoul Digital Forum.

The director said that 3D films will quickly dominate the future, vowing his best efforts to distribute 3D movies over the next few years. However, he added that 3D will be slow to dominate the TV industry and will be co-existing with 2D programming due to a dearth in content.

He also stressed that as the current level of 3D technology already enables viewers to enjoy a three-dimensional experience, the new 3D technology to be used in the future will not be very different. Cameron added what's important is to raise the quality of the content itself.

The director said that it will take about three years to produce the sequel to Avatar.
