The government has declared July 1 a 'World Cup holiday' in South Korea

Monday July 1st has been designated a World Cup holiday by the government. Cheong Wa Dae spokeswoman, Park Sun-sook said the government decided to declare next Monday, the day after the World Cup final, a public holiday, irrespective of the results of the semi-final match between Korea and Germany on Tuesday. A government official explained that regardless of whether the national team makes it to the World Cup final, Korea's reaching the semi-finals is an event to be celebrated by all. The official added that the government is considering other measures to sublimate people's World Cup fever, shown with enthusiastic support, into national harmony and prosperity.
