The government marked the nation’s 29th Teacher’s Day with a ceremony at the Central Government Complex in Seoul on Saturday.

At the ceremony, the government presented awards to some six-thousand teachers.

The government invited teachers from technical high schools as well as schools in remote areas to the ceremony and for the first time allowed the families of the teachers to attend the event.

Meanwhile, the Korean Federation of Teacher's Associations, which had jointly organized Teacher’s Day ceremonies in recent years, did not take part in Saturday’s event and did not hold a separate ceremony amid corruption scandals in the education sector.
