Han River Floating Islands to Debut Soon

Three floating islands that are expected to be major Han River landmarks will be set up on the river this month.

Seoul City says the support structures for the first and third islands will be launched by next week.

The 96-point-four billion won floating islands project is financed by the city and the Soul Flora consortium. The islands will be floated south of Banpo Bridge.

Including bridges connecting the islands, the total land area comes to 99-hundred square meters. The three islands will be 55-hundred, 34-hundred and one-thousand square meters large.

A 700-hundred seat convention hall and a restaurant will open on the largest of the three islands. An entertainment hall and eateries will be on the second largest island, and the remaining island will house yachting and other water sports facilities as well as a forest and a rooftop garden.
