Perugia move to sign contract with Ahn

Pusan Icons soccer team officials indicated Tuesday Serie A football club Perugia have made known their intention to sign a permanent contract with Ahn Jung-hwan, South Korea's golden goal striker against Italy in last week's World Cup match. The Korean club said they have received an official letter from the Serie A team who wanted to claim their right to have Ahn permanently transferred to their side on payment of $1.6 million dollars, ostensibly pursuant to an agreement signed between the two clubs last August. Pusan officials however, have said that Perugia's legal rights over the 26-year-old star could very well be disputed, as they failed to abide by certain clauses in the agreement. After Italy's defeat last Tuesday, Perugia owner and president Luciano Gaucci was quoted as telling the Italian media that he will not renew Ahn's contract. Later, Alessandro Gaucci, Luciano's son and the club's chief executive officer, extended an olive branch to Ahn by blaming false reports and misquotes for what he called a "regrettable misunderstanding."
