Survey: 22% of Koreans Are Buddhist

A new survey finds that one in four South Koreans is a Buddhist.

According to a 2005 survey by Statistics Korea, ten million 720-thousand Koreans said they were Buddhist, which is about 22 percent of the 47 million nationals who reside in South Korea.

About 42 percent of the 25 million people who said they have a religion reported being a follower of Buddhism.

Protestantism came in second with eight-point-six million followers, and Catholicism came in third with five-point-one million. Won Buddhism was next with 130-thousand followers.
