North Korea has hinted that it would shut down the Gaeseong Industrial Park if Seoul resumes loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts across the inter-Korean border.
In a message issued under the name of the chief delegate to inter-Korean general-level talks, the North said Wednesday that if the South resumes propaganda broadcasts to the North, Pyongyang will completely ban the passage of South Korean personnel and vehicles into and out of the zone under inter-Korean control in the western border area, apparently referring to the Gaeseong park.
In the message, which was broadcast by the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency, the North added that the South would be violating inter-Korean military agreements and engaging in military provocation by installing the loudspeakers.
The message also said that if the South continues to disseminate anti-Pyongyang leaflets over the North and resumes the propaganda broadcasts, Pyongyang will immediately take military steps, including physical action.
