NK: GNP Suffered 'Humiliating Defeat' in Elections

North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) is calling the results of South Korea’s local elections Wednesday a “humiliating defeat” for the ruling Grand National Party (GNP).

KCNA said that South Korea’s democratic forces won a landslide victory and that the ultra right-wing, conservative GNP has suffered as a result.

The agency accused the current South Korean administration of staging a sinking of a ship to get votes in the elections and of pushing inter-Korean relations to the brink of war.

The news agency also said that the results were a stern blow to the current South Korean government.

It added that the results are being called by the media “a stern judgment” by the people against the Lee Myung-bak government’s policies on North Korea and are an expression of the will of the people who want to defend democracy and peace.
