S Korea to discuss with Japan scrapping visa for South Koreans

Government officials said Saturday that South Korea is expected to call on Japan to waive a permanent visa requirement for South Koreans when their leaders hold a summit Monday in Tokyo

President Kim Dae-jung will leave Sunday for Japan to attend the closing ceremony of the 2002 World Cup in Yokohama in the same and hold the summit with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi,

In recent working-level talks, Seoul already asked Tokyo for the visa waiver after analyzing the temporary measure by Tokyo that allowed South Koreans in enter Japan without visas for the the May 31-June 30 World Cup finals.
