South Korean companies operating in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex seek to form a representative body for direct negotiations with North Korea.

The companies are expected to submit papers to the complex management committee on establishing such an agency.

North Korean law on the Gaeseong special district stipulates such an agency as the official corporate organization through which company representatives can discuss issues such as complex operations and development.

The move to establish a consultative body reflects the need for an entity recognized by North Korean authorities that is apart from the existing business association currently operating at the complex.
