North Korea’s mission to the U.N. has warned that Pyongyang will carry out military measures if the U.N. Security Council issues any condemnation of the North for the sinking of the Cheonan naval ship.
North Korea’s Ambassador to the U.N. mission, Sin Son-ho, said in a news conference in New York Tuesday that the results of the multinational probe into the Cheonan’s sinking were fabricated. He repeatedly demanded that South Korea allow a military investigation team from North Korea to access the site where the sinking occurred.
In particular, Sin questioned how remnants of a torpedo could remain intact during an explosion. He also argued that if the North had launched an attack, it wouldn't have left a mark on the torpedo in Korean script.
Sin added that South Korea and the U.S. are seeking political gain from the Cheonan incident. He said that Seoul used the sinking to influence the results of the June local elections and the U.S. took advantage of the incident to justify its military influence in Northeast Asia.
Asked by KBS who will be subject to the North’s military measures if the Security Council condemns the North for the sinking of the Cheonan, Sin said South Korea.
