Poll: 79% of S. Koreans Have Positive View of US

A new survey finds that eight out of ten South Koreans have a positive view of the United States.

The survey was conducted by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed between April and May some 24-thousand people from 22 countries on how they perceive the U.S.

According to the survey 79 percent of the 706 South Korean adults surveyed between April eleventh and 23rd responded positively to the U.S., while 18 percent responded negatively. Of the nations surveyed, South Koreans expressed the third-highest approval rating of the U.S., behind only Kenya at 94 percent and Nigeria at 81 percent.

Respondents in Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey expressed the lowest approval rating for the U.S., each at 17 percent.

South Koreans' favorability rate for the U.S. stood at 46 percent in 2003, 70 percent in 2008 and 78 percent in 2009.
