Seoul to Provide Selective Aid to NK's Socially Vulnerable

The government and the ruling camp have agreed to provide selective aid to North Korea with the primary recipients being the socially vulnerable, including children and pregnant women.

The government and the ruling Grand National Party (GNP) reached the agreement during a meeting of senior officials at the prime minister’s residence on Wednesday.

GNP spokesman Cho Hae-jin said participants agreed to pursue inter-Korean economic cooperation in the wake of the Cheonan incident in a way that does not violate the basic principles of the government's response measures to the North's sinking of the Cheonan.

Cho added that the government has resumed anti-Pyongyang radio broadcasts and continues to install loudspeakers along the border. He added that military drills are scheduled to take place in the East Sea and Yellow Sea in September and October.
