The Korean World Cup soccer team disbanded in a ceremony held in the Korean Football Association (KFA) Friday afternoon, ending its 18-month activity. In the ceremony, the 23 members of the team were given a prize money of some $233,000 dollars each and head coach Guus Hiddink, Most Valuable Player Hong Myung-bo and the KFA each were presented with a Golden Ball. The team collected 100 million won as a condolence money to the families of sailors killed in a naval clash with North Korea in the Yellow Sea over the weekend, and the KFA and the World Cup organizing committee also raised 50 million won each to express sympathy for the families. President Chung Mong-joon of the KFA asked, in a farewell speech, the team to continue contributing to the football development of the country. Hiddink will leave for the Netherlands Sunday, and the team members will return to their respective professional soccer clubs next week.
