Vatican's Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe said Friday while meeting President Kim Dae-jung that Pope John Paul II is still keen to visit North Korea but has not been able to do so because the current conditions are not suitable. He said the Vatican will continue to seek exchanges with North Korea and hopes for success in inter-Korean dialogue, reconciliation and cooperation. Cardinal Sepe, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, invited President Kim to visit the Vatican again, an offer Kim accepted and said he would do so at the next opportunity. Kim visited the Vatican in March 2000 and asked the Catholic Church to assume a role in helping bring North Korea out of isolation.
