Anti-NK Resolution on Cheonan Passes in Parliament

The parliament has adopted a resolution which condemns the North for its attack on the Cheonan naval warship and urges strong measures from the government.

In a plenary session on Tuesday, the resolution won 163 votes for and 70 against.

The resolution makes clear that the Cheonan sank due to a torpedo attack by the North. It defines the attack as an unequivocal invasion in violation of the U.N. Charter and a clear act of aggression that goes against the Korean War truce and inter-Korean basic agreements.

It also called for a sincere apology by the North as well as a pledge by North Korea to not provoke the South again. It also demanded punishment of those responsible and compensation for the victims.
