The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecast Saturday amid nationwide warnings, typhoon Rammasun could bring up to 120mm of rain as it passes through North Jeolla and Gangwon provinces by Sunday afternoon. The typhoon has weakened as it moves northward but is still expected to bring strong winds and heavy rains, ins, damaging crops and flooding low-lying areas. Rammasun, this year's fifth typhoon, hit areas near Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, at 9 a.m. Saturday and will pass over the Korean Peninsula to the eastern seaboard early Sunday. Rammasun, which means "god of thunder" in Thai, is moving northwest at 28 kph. The storm is bringing sustained winds of up to 23 mps (meters per second) and is capable of producing waves off the coast of 6-8 meters in height. Typhoon Rammasun caused the cancellations of many domestic flights Saturday morning at most local airports except in Daegu and Jeju. According to airport officials, some 150 domestic flights were cancelled Saturdeay morning due to heavy rainfall. However, as the typhoon has been moving toward North Jeolla Province, Incheon International Airport was not likely to be affected.
