Seoul City Gov’t to Restore Independence Leader's Office

The Seoul City government announced plans on Thursday to restore the historical office and residence of colonial independence leader Kim Koo.

The city government has decided on a restoration plan and has formed an advisory committee for the project.

For the restoration, public access to the office and residence, known in Korean as “Gyeonggyojang,” will be temporarily limited from Friday through the end of November next year. A memorial hall for Kim, which is inside the three-story building, will remain open on Saturdays.

Kim served as the premier of the Korean provisional government and led independence movements against Japan's colonial rule of Korea. After the nation’s liberation, Kim spearheaded the drive for South-North unification. He was assassinated on the second floor of the building on June 26th, 1949.
