S.Korea Approves More Humanitarian Aid Shipments to NK

The South Korean Unification Ministry has approved increased shipments of humanitarian aid for vulnerable North Koreans.

Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters Friday that despite the ministry’s move to put on hold its aid projects for the North on May 24th, aid continues to be provided to infants and other vulnerable sectors of the North Korean population.

Chun said that goods approved for shipment to the North on Thursday were comprised of 43-million won worth of soy milk and baking ingredients.

The Thursday shipment is the ninth such delivery of humanitarian aid to North Korea since May 24th, when Seoul announced that it was banning all South Koreans from entering North Korea and suspending all trade with the North. This was in retaliation for North Korea’s sinking of a South Korean naval vessel in March.
