A Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday South Korea and Japan agreed to increase the number of working holiday visas for each country from the current 1,000 to 1,800 as of this year. The two countries have held working-level talks on the issue since President Kim Dae-jung and Japanese Prime Mime Minister Junichiro Koizumi agreed to expand the working holiday programs during their summit talks in Seoul last March. The two countries first struck the South Korea-Japan working holiday visa agreement during President Kim's visit to Japan in October 1998, with the system between the two countries implemented as of April 1999.
