Gov't Urges NK to Show Denuke Commitment

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry has urged North Korea to show its commitment to denuclearization in response to comments by Pyongyang Saturday.

A spokesman of the North's Foreign Ministry said Pyongyang pledges to continue efforts for denuclearization and a peace treaty through the six-party nuclear talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Kim Young-sun in Seoul told reporters Sunday that the North's responses and activities will be monitored following the U.N. Security Council's presidential statement on the Cheonan sinking.

Kim says Seoul will consult with other parties to the nuclear talks to decide how to seek Pyongyang's denuclearization.

He says the North must first admit guilt for the Cheonan sinking according to the Security Council statement, stressing the importance of taking responsibility for its activities in the international community.
