UNC, NK Agree in Principle to Open General-level Talks

North Korean and U.N. Command officials have reportedly reached an agreement on opening general-level talks that will address the “Cheonan” naval incident.

The U.N. Command said in a news release Friday that the two sides exchanged proposals on holding the general-level talks during working-level talks at the Panmunjeom peace village on Thursday.

A U.N. Command official said that the two sides agreed in principle to hold a future round of talks, adding that they will decide whether to hold another round of working-level talks or immediately open the general-level talks after consultations with their respective superiors.

The meeting, which ran from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, was led by UNC Colonel Kurt Taylor and Colonel Pak Ki-yong of the North.
