RFA: NK Celebrates Diplomatic Victory on Cheonan Issue

North Korea reportedly began promoting the U.N. Security Council’s response on the sinking of South Korea’s “Cheonan” naval vessel as a diplomatic victory even before the UNSC issued a chairman’s statement on July ninth.

Washington-based Radio Free Asia (RFA) quoted several sources familiar with North Korean affairs as saying that the North’s Workers’ Party released an announcement celebrating its victory in relation to the Cheonan issue one day earlier than the issuance of the UNSC statement.

In the document, North Korea said that the U.S. and South Korea’s scheme to frame the North was made evident by the U.N.

Radio Free Asia said that North Korea had, in advance, acquired information that the UNSC statement would not directly blame it for the sinking of the naval ship.
