The first week of August is the most popular time and the east coast the most popular destination for South Koreans going on summer vacation this year.

The Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs Ministry conducted a phone survey on some 4,000 households nationwide, and found 79 percent will drive to their vacation spots.

The number of people planning to travel over the period is expected to rise eight percent year-on-year for a daily average of 8.8 million.

The ministry will designate the period from July 24th to August 10th as a time for special transportation policy. Nearly 130 additional buses will be reserved and the frequency of train, airplane and coastal liner operations will be raised.
