South Korean scholars finished a preliminary inspection of 297 old books looted by French sailors from Joseon Dynasty's royal library now kept in the French National Library in Paris. The four South Korean delegates checked the condition of 97 books they did not review in their last visit in February. The delegates were headed by Kim Mun-sik, researcher and archivist at Seoul National University which preserves antique books from the dynasty's royal library, Gyujanggak, They also made a close examination into the texts of 31 books, whose copies have not been found elsewhere, and 60 others whose actual contents and number of pages were in an apparent disagreement in an earlier catalogue by French archivists. Only 11 volumes of "Chronicle of Royal Rites and Ceremonies" were found to have their original covers and bindings intact. The rest were found to have been re-bound by the French library.
