NK Discharges Water from Hwanggang Dam

North Korea began a discharge of water from its Hwanggang Dam on Thursday.

North Korea notified South Korea through an inter-Korean military communication line of its plan to discharge water from the dam beginning at 6 a.m.

The Unification Ministry said that it ordered related agencies to take necessary measures to prepare for possible emergencies that could result, such as flooding.

In September of last year, North Korea discharged millions of tons of water from the dam on the Imjin River which resulted in floods in South Korea that killed six campers.
