S.Korean Firms in Gaeseong Launch Permanent Council

South Korean firms operating at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea have formed a permanent council to hold consultations with North Korean officials.

Heads of some 90 companies that operate in the industrial park held a ceremony in Seoul to mark the launch of the organization on Thursday and appointed Daewha Fuel Pump President Yoo Dong-wook to lead the council for the next two years.

The council will focus on holding debates and devising measures on contentious issues concerning the development and management of the industrial complex.

All 142 South Korean firms in the industrial park will have a place on the council.

The new council is expected to play a strong role in resolving key issues with the North, such as cross-border passage, communications and customs clearance.
