FAO to Cancel NK Aid Project

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reportedly decided to cancel a project to teach agricultural technologies to North Korea due to shortages in international aid.

Radio Free Asia quoted an FAO official as saying that political tension surrounding North Korea has had negatively affected drives to collect international donations, and as a result, the U.N. agency is facing a shortage of funds.

The FAO said it decided to scrap the aid project to North Korea, which has been sanctioned by the U.N. and some individual countries.

Since 2003, the U.N. organization has been teaching the North a double-cropping technology and an organic agricultural technique to reduce damage from natural disasters.
