KMA: Heavy Rains to Result in NK Food Shortage

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) says North Korea is likely to suffer from a poor crop yield this year due to heavy rains.

KMA said Wednesday that the North Korean city of Gaeseong has already been hit with an estimated 560 millimeters of rain this year, and that the average figure for all areas in the North was 316 millimeters, or one-point-four times that of previous years. The data was obtained through a global meteorological data network.

The administration said food production in North Korea is likely to falter this year due to frequent rains and lack of sun this spring and from heavy rains this summer.
