A large-scale traditional Korean village, complete with houses, will be built in an ethnic Korean community in the city of Ningan in Heilongjiang Province, China.

The Ningan government signed an agreement Sunday to build the village in cooperation with the Heilongjiang News, a newspaper for ethnic Koreans in China.

About ten officials from the South Korean Consulate General in Shenyang also attended the signing ceremony in the city in northeastern China.

The newspaper, which is in charge of building the traditional “hanok” Korean houses, is consulting with a South Korean-based specialist to produce the architectural designs for the structures.

Five hanoks will be built by the end of October on a trial basis, with 300 more planned.
