NK Shows Footage of New Main Battle Tank

Footage of North Korea’s new main battle tank, the Pokpung (Storm), has been aired by the North.

A magazine published by South Korea's Defense Agency for Technology and Quality says that over the past few months, a North Korean TV station has aired rare footage of the North's Pokpung battle tank, also known as the M-2002.

The magazine says the tank is an improvement over the former Soviet Union's T-62 and is believed to be equipped with either a 125- or 115-millimeter gun.

The tank also has a modern computerized firing system including an infrared searchlight, a distance measuring device and a climate observation sensor.

North Korea is believed to have begun developing the model in the 1990s.
