NK Denounces Lee's Unification Tax Proposal

North Korea has denounced President Lee Myung-bak for his proposal to introduce a special tax to finance the costs of reuniting with the communist state.

According to the North’s Korean Central News Agency, the Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said that Lee’s proposal was “impure” as it assumed an eventual contingency situation that compromises the North Korean state.

The committee said Lee’s proposal was antidemocratic and against unification.

The committee said the unification tax proposal is a confrontational outburst and warned that Seoul will have to pay for making such a suggestion.

On Seoul’s plans to seek reunification, the North said that such plans are absurd and that Pyongyang will never abandon its nuclear ambitions.
