North Korea reportedly smuggled in from China in April a high-tech device used for missile launches.

A Seoul official said Thursday that a Chinese firm exported the measuring instrument to the North after fabricating related papers that stated the instrument was an ordinary machine unrelated to weapons.

Exports of such devices to the North are prohibited by a U.N. Security Council resolution.

The official said that other cases of the North having smuggled in luxury goods and items related to weapons of mass destruction have been detected and that U.S. authorities have been notified.
