'NK Flood Damage Not as Serious as in 2006, 2007'

The government says that flood damage reported by North Korea this year is not as severe as in 2006 or 2007.

Quoting statistics from the North's Korean Central News Agency, the Unification Ministry in Seoul says that North Korea reported damage to 55-hundred homes and 140 square kilometers of farmland due to flooding that occurred from July 16th to August 21st.

According to the ministry, North Korea reported that due to flooding in August 2006, 150 people died or went missing, 270 square kilometers of farmland was inundated and 36-thousand homes were damaged.

In 2007, the North said that 600 people died or went missing, 900-thousand lost their homes and 19-hundred-80 square kilometers of farmland was damaged.
