RFA: N.Korea Asks for UN Aid For Flooding

Radio Free Asia (RFA) has reported that North Korea has requested emergency relief three days after the Sinuiju region in North Pyeongan Province was inundated due to the Yalu River flooding.

The region saw sporadic torrential rains since mid-July, inflicting severe damage to North Korea. However, the Stalinist state had not asked for help from the international community, including the United Nations.

UNICEF East Asia and Pacific told RFA that following North Korea’s request on Tuesday afternoon, all U.N. agencies in Pyongyang would discuss methods with North Korean authorities on Wednesday.
