Child Care Facilities Open in Gaeseong Complex

Child care facilities for North Korean workers in the Gaeseong Industrial Park opened Wednesday.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said the two-story, 953-square-meter facility was built next to North Korea’s Central Guidance Bureau for Special Zone Development in the complex.

Construction began in September last year and was completed near the end of December.

The North provided the land and South Korea the funding for the building. It is capable of accommodating some 500 infants.

The Unification Ministry said the facility was established to enhance productivity of the companies there and for humanitarian reasons.
