TOPIK Korean Language Test to be Held This Weekend

The Test of Proficiency in Korean, or TOPIK, will be administered in 24 nations this weekend.

The Education Ministry and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation say a total of 81-thousand people have registered to take the test, which will be the 19th time for it to be administered.

The TOPIK evaluates the level of Korean proficiency of foreigners and ethnic Koreans living abroad whose first language is not Korean.

In 1997, the first year the TOPIK was administered, a mere 26-hundred applied to take the test. The number has increased each year since.
