NK Proposes Holding Family Reunion Around Chuseok

North Korea has proposed holding a reunion of separated families at Mount Geumgang around the Chuseok holidays.

South Korea’s Red Cross said Saturday that its North Korean counterpart made the proposal in a message sent Friday.

In the message, the North also expressed hope that the two Koreas will actively launch humanitarian cooperation projects following the reunion. The North proposed that the Red Cross organizations of the two Koreas hold working-level talks at an early date to discuss the details of such projects.

The South’s Red Cross said it is positively considering the North’s offer, adding it will come up with a response after consultations with the government.

The family reunion is most likely to take place after the Chuseok holidays given that there are only eleven days away. It would take time for the two Koreas to discuss preparations for a reunion.

The two Koreas last held family reunions from September 26th to October first of last year at the scenic mountain resort in the communist state.
