LDP Seeks to Hold Talks with NK Party on Rice Aid

The minor opposition Labor Democratic Party (LDP) says it received a request from North Korea’s Korean Social Democratic Party to hold working-level talks in the communist state.

LDP lawmaker Kang Ki-kab said Tuesday that the North Korean party made the request after accepting the LDP’s call to be invited to the North to discuss the provision of rice aid.

Kang said on Monday that his party accepted the North Korean party’s proposal and is hoping to hold the working-level talks in Gaeseong on September 29th. Kang said his party has submitted an application to the Unification Ministry in Seoul for permission to visit the North.

The LDP plans to provide 100 tons of rice to the North Friday and is holding related consultations with the Unification Ministry.
