Nobel Prize Winners to be Announced Next Week

The Norwegian Nobel Committee will begin announcing its winners of the Nobel Prize on October fourth, with the awarding of the prize in physiology and medicine.

The prize for physics will be unveiled on the fifth, for chemistry on the sixth, for peace on the eighth, for literature on the seventh and for economic sciences on the eleventh.

The winner of the Nobel Prize in literature is expected to go to a poet for the first time in ten years.

AFP said that a female poet from Algeria, Assia Djebar, is the strongest candidate for the prize in literature. Other contenders include South Korea’s Ko Un, Sweden’s Tomas Transtromer and Syria’s Ali Ahmad Said Asbar, known by the pseudonym “Adonis.”
