DM: NK Disrupted GPS Reception on West Coast

Defense Minister Kim Tae-young says North Korea appears partly culpable for disruptions in the receptions of South Korea’s global positioning system (GPS) on the west coast in August.

Kim said at a parliamentary audit of the government on Monday that North Korea appears to have the capability to disrupt GPS reception in areas within 50 to 100 kilometers of the North Korean border.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Han Min-gu said that North Korea has the ability to cause such disruptions and that it appears it has attempted to use it.

The South Korean government and military experienced sporadic interruptions in GPS reception for several hours in parts of the west coast for three days on August 23rd.
