Two Koreas Exchange Preliminary Lists for Family Reunions

South and North Korea exchanged Tuesday lists of 200 candidates for inter-Korean family reunions that start October 30th.

About ten percent of the 200 people on South Korea’s list are relatives of prisoners of war or South Korean civilians abducted by North Korea, as has been customary.

South Korea selected 500 potential candidates for this month’s reunions on Friday and narrowed down the number of candidates to 200 after confirming their willingness to meet their North Korean relatives.

The two Koreas will confirm whether the candidates’ relatives are dead or alive and will exchange on October 25th final lists of 100 participants from each side.

North Korea’s selected participants will meet their South Korean relatives for three days starting October 30th at a reunion facility and hotel at the North’s Mount Geumgang resort.

South Korea’s selected participants will travel to the North Korean resort for a three-day reunion with their kin across the border, which will begin on November third.
