AP: Ko Un Strong Candidate for Nobel Literature Prize

The Associated Press says that South Korean poet Ko Un is one of strongest candidates to win the Nobel Prize in Literature along with Syria’s “Adonis.”

The winner of the prize will be announced at 8 pm on Thursday, Korean time.

The AP said that Ko and Adonis are generating the most buzz among Swedish Nobel watchers. It also predicted that the winner of the prize in literature is expected to go to a poet for the first time in six years.

The AP quoted literature expert Maria Schottenius at Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter as saying that she believes it will be Ko or Adonis this year. Schottenius correctly predicted last year’s winner Herta Mueller of Germany.

According to the AP, the Swedish national broadcaster SVT also regards Ko and Adonis as potential winners.

The Swedish Academy reportedly selected this year’s winner of the prize in literature last week but will hold the official vote on Thursday.
