Survey: 75% Think 'Hangeul Day' Should be Holiday

A KBS survey finds that 75 percent of South Koreans believe October ninth, a day to commemorate Hangul, should be a public holiday.

The survey results, released prior to Hangeul Day on Friday, also find that 97 percent of Koreans are concerned about damage to the Korean language caused by such factors as Internet slang.

The survey found that the Korean public regards the Korean word for “galaxy,” or “mirinae,” the most esthetically appealing Korean word.

The survey was conducted on 15-thousand people over the age of twelve on Monday and Tuesday. The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus zero-point-nine percentage points.
