UM: NK Preparing to Mark Anniversary of Workers' Party

North Korea is reportedly planning a large event to mark the 65th anniversary of the founding of the communist country’s ruling Workers’ Party on Sunday.

A Unification Ministry official in Seoul said North Korea has been planning the event, complete with a military parade, for a long time.

Experts say the scale of the events planned is related to some degree with Kim Jong-il’s recent public announcement that he would be promoting his youngest son and heir apparent, Jong-un, to a number of high-level military and government posts.
