Group to Inspect Geumgang Facilities ahead of Reunions

A group of 35 Hyundai Asan officials will visit Mount Geumgang in North Korea on Wednesday to inspect the facilities where inter-Korean family reunions will take place starting at the end of this month.

Unification Ministry deputy spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo told reporters that the officials will inspect the family reunion center and the Mount Geumgang Hotel at the scenic mountain resort. Lee said ten officials from the group will remain in the North until the family reunions end on November fifth.

Meanwhile, the Unification Ministry approved requests by four civic groups to visit the North to deliver humanitarian aid.

The government has now approved a total of ten South Korean civic groups’ requests to travel to the North to provide humanitarian aid since Seoul placed a ban on dealings with Pyongyang on May 24th.
