Two Koreas Reconnect Aviation Hotline

North and South Korea have reconnected an aviation hotline that has been out of service for months.

Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters on Monday in Seoul that the control centers at the South’s Incheon International Airport and at the North’s Sunan International Airport completed a test call at around 9 a.m.

The North cut the line on May 26th in protest of a South Korean ban on dealings with Pyongyang that was put in place on May 24th due to a Seoul-led investigation that determined North Korea was responsible for the sinking of the “Cheonan” naval ship. Pyongyang also cut the inter-Korean naval hotline.

Chun said the reconnection of the communication line came after the North proposed the idea via its management committee at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex last Saturday.
