Roof-tile Kilns of Silla Dynasty Unearthed in Gyeongju

The remains of roof-tile kilns dating back to the Silla Dynasty have been unearthed at Hwacheon-ri in the city of Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province.

The Yeongnam Institute of Cultural Properties said Wednesday that it found nine roof-tile kilns in Hwacheon-ri while inspecting a plot of land where facilities will be built to develop proton accelerators.

The institute said the kilns are presumed to be from either the end of the era of the Three Kingdoms of Korea or from the early Silla Dynasty.

The institute found large-sized tiles in the kilns that are 55 centimeters long, four centimeters thick and weigh 15 kilograms apiece.
