Two Koreas Open Red Cross Talks

The Red Cross societies of the two Koreas opened a round of talks on Tuesday morning at the North Korean border city of Gaeseong.

Three delegates from each side are taking part in the talks that are expected to end on Wednesday.

South Korea proposed that reunions of inter-Korean separated families be held on a regular basis and that the two Koreas discuss the issue of South Korean POWs from the Korean War and South Koreans abducted by North Korea.

The North is expected to request that the South provide a large amount of rice aid and expand humanitarian provisions to the North.

Upon his departure for Gaeseong, South Korea’s chief delegate Kim Yong-hyun told reporters that his team would work to reach an agreement with North Korea on holding family reunions on a monthly basis.

He added that discussions on the provision of rice in limited quantities are also possible.
