Rice Aid Leaves S.Korea for NK

Five-thousand tons of rice aid for flood victims in North Korea left Gunsan Port on Tuesday morning.

South Korea's National Red Cross says the rice will reach the North via Dandong, China, and will be delivered to North Koreans in Sinuiju by mid-November.

The rice aid was set to leave Gunsan on Monday but weather delayed the departure.

The Red Cross proposed in August the provision of the aid following news of severe flood damage. Pyongyang followed up by requesting aid in the form of rice, heavy equipment and construction materials. Following deliberation, Seoul decided last month that it would deliver rice, instant noodles and cement.
